Norfolk on way to faster broadband


Norfolk County Council has announced its broadband core network is to become significantly better thanks to £30 million of investment. The council is putting up half of the fund, with government backing matching its stake 100 per cent. As a result, residents of the region can expect what is being described as one of the most significant developments since the dualling of the A11 was announced.

Cookies crumble in broadband law shake-up


A shake-up of the law surrounding how businesses deliver information via broadband and dial-up connections sees cookies become an opt-in part of the process. Using cookies, websites can leave a bundle of data on a site visitor's computer, which can be retrieved the next time they visit. Cookies have been used since the early days of the internet as a means of tracking people as they pass through a site - performing important functions like keeping them logged in once they have gone through password verification.

Mobile broadband page load times in single figures


The average page now takes less than ten seconds to load via mobile broadband connections, figures from industry regulator Ofcom have revealed. In its latest insight into the development of mobile broadband, the body measures the typical page load time at 8. 5 seconds.
