Tablets drive global PC market growth


The worldwide PC market grew seven per cent in the first quarter of 2011, driven by sales of tablet computers, data from Canalys shows. Once again Apple's iPad led the field and uptake of similar devices came at the expense of notebooks and netbooks, which struggled to compete for consumers' spending. UK must have Europe's fastest broadband by 2030


The government must aim to outfit the UK with Europe's quickest broadband network by 2030, according to a leading business group. Last week the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) called on the government to promote the UK to investors in order to secure jobs and vital funding for the country. According to the business group, public and consumer spending is likely to remain subdued and so investment in companies will play a key role in ensuring the nation continues on the path to recovery.

Global MSBG shipments to near two million by 2015


Worldwide shipments of multi-service business gateways (MSBGs) will run close to 1. 8 million units by 2015, according to In-Stat. The devices are used primarily by small businesses to combine data routing, VoIP hardware, switching, security and analogue voice interfaces into a single piece of equipment.

BT call charges to rise again


British Telecom (BT) is to raise its call charges by nine per cent as of today. Millions of customers around the UK will once again be hit with a price increase as the cost of making a call goes up from 7p a minute to 7. 6p.

Hosted telephony can make big savings for small businesses


Small businesses are looking to IP telephony solutions in order to reduce their costs, reports TMCnet. Writing for the online communications and technology community, contributor Beecher Tuttle weighs up the benefits of a hosted voice service and an on-premise solution for small or medium sized business (SMBs).
