Midlothian village broadband speeds 'set to treble'


Broadband speeds in one Midlothian village are set to treble in the next two years, it has been claimed, which could mean more residents turning to VoIP. Dalkeith has been selected as one of 41 towns that will receive BT's new superfast internet services by spring 2012, the Midlothian Advertiser reports. The move will allow more than 18,000 local households to enjoy the benefits of 40 Mbps online speeds.

VoIP users 'must keep an eye on security'


Firms that employ VoIP services can enjoy significant cost savings, but they must not lose sight of security, it has been claimed. More firms 'recognising the benefits of VoIP'


Companies are increasingly turning their attention to VoIP solutions, a new study has claimed. Detailed analysis by Research and Markets, in a report entitled VoIP In Western Europe: Opportunities & Forecasts, 2010-2015, showed more firms are discovering the cost savings the technology can provide. Significant overhead reductions can be achieved because voice signals are transmitted as packets of data, which requires a lower level of technological infrastructure than traditional phone systems, the report stated.

Govt announces plans to 'make broadband 100 times faster'


Broadband internet access in the UK could be made 100 times faster, if a new government project is successful. The £7. 2 million Photonics HyperHighway project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), will bring together scientists to look at how fibre-optic technology is used.

CAP broadband review shows "remarkable disdain" for public


The Committee for Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee for Advertising Practice (BCAP) recently announced it would be reviewing the guidelines on promotions for broadband services, which may be of interest to those looking for Voip solutions. While PC Pro magazine believes there is a problem with the way such products are advertised, it has criticised the wording of the consultation document, which it described as showing a "remarkable disdain" for the public.
