'Flexible' VoIP solutions attract SMEs


Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are attracted to the flexibility of VoIP solutions, it has been claimed. IP telephony solutions are based on software rather than hardware, allowing users to maintain and update the system without the need for additional infrastructure. Hugo Harber, director of convergence and network strategy at telecommunications firm Star, said smaller companies can easily upgrade the technology as they earn more revenue.

New software could improve VoIP solutions


VoIP solutions could be set to improve following the release of a new monitoring package. US firm GL Communications has launched its PacketProbe software which can be integrated into the majority of communication systems to provide data on IP telephony solutions. Users will receive sound quality statistics, call detail records and quality of service information.

VoIP traffic set to increase in US


VoIP traffic could be set to rise in the US following the announcement that a VoIP provider has expanded its network coverage. US firm 360networks has confirmed that residents in Sacramento, California will be able to access the technology. Rick Coma, 360networks senior vice-president, claimed the company will continue its rapid expansion in the future.

UK could access better VoIP solutions than US


UK consumers could be able to access higher-quality VoIP solutions than their US counterparts, it has been revealed. A new report by market research firm Strategy Analytics has found that broadband services in Britain are better than those in the US. The company rated the technology in 57 countries using five different categories, including speed, cost, urban quotient, affordability and household penetration.
