UK celebrates ten years of broadband


Broadband, the internet delivery model which supports VoIP traffic and networks across the country, is celebrating its tenth birthday on Wednesday, according to the Press Association. In 2000, the first broadband was installed in Essex as part of a trial. By 2002, there were around 200,000 broadband users across the country and within four years this had grown to 13 million.

Juniper Research forecast mobile web boost


Juniper Research has published new research, showing that the value of mobile web 2. 0 applications and services will increase to over $6 billion (£3. 9 billion) by 2012.

UK VoIP market broadens


Tesco has shut its VoIP traffic supporting VoIP service, creating a space in the market for a dedicated VoIP retailer. A Tesco spokesperson told PC Pro: "We found Tesco customers weren’t really using it and taking it up. We launched the service quite a while ago now and technology and communications have moved forward a long way.

Internet device rise could boost VoIP traffic


The use of devices that allow access to IP telephony solutions is expected to increase by over 25 times by 2013, Cisco Systems has said. The networking equipment and management supplier predicted that the number of devices connected to the internet will reach one trillion by 2013, it has been widely reported. The number of internet-enabled devices in use is expected to hit 35 billion this year, up from 500 million in 2007, which could lead to an increase in VoIP traffic.

Mobile data a boon for VoIP phones


VoIP traffic is likely to have been boosted by the boom in mobile data use over the last 12 months. Smartphone traffic skyrocketed between February 2009 and February 2010, increasing by 193 per cent, mobile advertising network AdMob has said. According to the AdMob Mobile Metrics Report February 2010, this growth was driven by the use of applications, such as VoIP solutions, on iPhones and Android-powered handsets.
