Mobile VoIP delivered without Wi-Fi or 3G connections

CRC calls for more support for rural broadband schemes


Broadband schemes in rural communities should be bolstered to aid universal connectivity, according to the Commission for Rural Communities (CRC). Over 40 per cent of web users in rural parts of the UK are yet to receive speeds of two megabits per second (Mbps) and the CRC is calling for rural community schemes to get fibre optic upgrades to help improve download speeds and access to VoIP solutions. The CRC has called for a firm strategy for the government in how to include rural web users in the universal connectivity scheme that is due to connect every UK home by 2012.

Advanced Isle of Man broadband network to benefit VoIP solutions

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could avoid having to pay excessive start-up costs by investing in unified communications (UC) systems, according to an expert. Contributing to the National Computing Centre's membership website, Simon Paton, managing director of CommuniGate Systems UK, said that companies could find VoIP hardware and email facilities are easier to use through integrated solutions.

Allowing web users to pay a monthly fee in exchange for unlimited media downloads could be the future of broadband use, while tackling illegal activity. The founder and editor of TorrentFreak. com, referring to himself only as Ernesto, said that there is yet to be a broadband service that allows people to download content to the extent that they desire, but that having this option could curb illegal downloading.
