VoIP News: June 2008Many businesses may be missing out on an opportunity to save money by not investing in IP telephony solutions for their mobiles, according to research. The technology, which allows phone calls to take place via the internet using a process called VoIP (voice over internet protocol), requires the use of phones capable of transferring large amounts of data, like 3G phones. The research by Quocirca, a research and analysis company, found that less than half of businesses plan to implement them. Other companies featured in the investment were Core Capital, Cipio Partners, SDL Ventures and Merifin Capital. To support new heavy levels of bandwidth in metropolitan areas - created by people using new technologies like voice over internet protocol (VoIP) - more capacity needs to be created, and the investors felt BridgeWave were the best placed company to achieve this. Communications market research company Infonetics Research has suggested that the market has increased by 12 per cent in the first quarter of 2008. The firm's report into the growth indicates that the growth in the market is being driven by an increased number of service providers releasing new IPTV networks or expanding existing networks. Recent research has revealed that more and more solutions providers are choosing to sell VoIP products, reports website CRN. Figures from the Everything Channel's 2008 State of Technology survey found that 40 per cent of solutions providers are now offering VoIP.
