Mobile market surges 65.4 per cent

Smartphones and tablets 'to surpass PCs'


Companies may wish to invest in VoIP solutions for smartphones and tablet computers going forward, as these will usurp PCs in the near future, an industry figure has claimed. Nicholas McQuire, research director at the International Data Corporation, told the Financial Times Connected Business podcast that global shipments of the two devices have already surpassed those of PCs and it is only a matter of time before they become the most dominant technology in the office.

Businesses 'lack confidence in controlling mobile access'


Companies are concerned about their ability to control access to mobile devices, it has been suggested. Courion has published the results of a poll showing enterprises worry that users connecting to networks off-site via portable telephony solutions such as smartphones could place data at risk. Although the survey found many companies are confident about in-house security, mobile devices and the cloud are seen as posing a greater threat to systems, with 69 per cent of organisations reporting that employees use personal technology to access corporate networks.

Broadband IP telephony solutions spending 'to soar'


Small business expenditure on IP telephony solutions will grow by 83 per cent between 2010 and 2015, according to new research. A study by In-Stat found that broadband IP telephony is already common in offices, although many may not be aware that they are actually using VoIP hardware. The researchers suggested that application-based VoIP solutions will increase by 50 per cent by 2015, while the professional services vertical market segment will spend over £3 billion (£1.

Consumers 'frustrated with mobile web experiences'


Users of mobile VoIP solutions are demanding more from their mobile web browsing experience, yet many organisations are failing to meet their expectations. That is according to a report from Compuware Corporation, which revealed that 56 per cent of people in the UK expect a web page to load as quickly, or faster than it would were they using their PC and broadband connection at home. Just under half of UK users expect a page to load in three seconds or less, while 70 per cent revealed they are willing to wait no longer than five seconds or they will leave the website.
