US army 'chooses VoIP'Posted 2 months 2 weeks ago in: General VoIP ![]() Telappliant News: 2013-03-04 Rate this article: Members of the US army could soon be benefiting from the many features of VoIP, after it was revealed that the military department is to invest in the technology. A $14.4 million (£9.57 million) contract with the army has been awarded to a US technology firm, which will now deploy the solution. UPI.com told how a new VoIP system will be deployed at the Fort Leonard Wood site in Missouri, replacing an ageing and outdated telecommunications set-up that is currently in place. The advantages of turning to VoIP are well known among businesses all over the world and now it seems the army is keen to enjoy similar pluses. In these times of austerity and budget cuts, departments in all manner of industries will be keeping one eye on their expenditure, so investing in VoIP seems like a shrewd way to reduce this. Fort Leonard Wood is a major training centre for the US Department of Defense. Among the tasks that are routinely carried out there are earth moving, civil support, truck driving and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear first responders. Upon deploying VoIP at the key facility, the US army will realise it stands to gain plenty from its arrivals. In particular, when it comes to making international calls, running them over IP links rather than through standard copper lines makes tremendous financial sense. VoIP users can also ensure they always have enough lines to answer calls and deal with periods of busy traffic, while limiting wastage. For the ultimate in efficient running, there may be no better option than looking at IP telephony. Perhaps the best news of all for the army is that VoIP does not require much in the way of time or money in order to be maintained. In fact, it is incredibly easy to keep it running at its very best, which could be hugely beneficial to such an obviously busy and pressured department that has plenty on its mind at all times.
