As technology advances and the way we work changes, businesses will increasingly look for ways to drive efficiency and adopt the very latest solutions in order to improve results.

It seems one of the major options on the market right now is VoIP, which can revolutionise the way a company operates. By providing the option of making cheap calls to the continent, it can help firms slash their costs while remaining at the cutting edge of the technology market.

Kate Harrison, writing a piece for Forbes, has been speaking about the advantages of VoIP and how it is now the number one alternative to a landline. She said landlines in the business world are now almost "obsolete", in much the same way as external hard drives and dial-up connections.

Indeed, she quoted figures from the Associated Press that suggested there has been a 55 per cent decline in landline phone sales in New York in the last ten years, with some experts even predicting they will be redundant by 2025.

Undoubtedly the prime option in place of a landline is VoIP, which Ms Harrison described as the "most widely used alternative". She said it is a particularly huge hit among businesses, many of which now benefit from running it.

She noted the "biggest advantage" of using VoIP is definitely cost, with international communications renowned for being cheap, while machine to machine calls are often free. She went on to remark that many people in the industry are sure that VoIP will eventually replace landlines altogether.

At this current difficult time for the economy, investing in solutions that will help a company's bottom line can only be a good thing. Therefore, splashing out on VoIP should be a priority for firms that are looking to reduce costs and improve their efficiency.
