The rise of VoIP has been as rapid as it has been impressive in recent years, as more and more businesses realise it is time to ditch traditional telephone lines in favour of the latest, most innovative web-based technology.

While the emergence of VoIP as a must-have business solution has, of course, been largely down to the quality of the products on offer, it has also relied on the creation and development of fast and reliable broadband connections. Running calls on the web would not be a good plan if there were no worthy connections available.

Luckily, in the UK there is an abundance of modern and effective internet services on offer, so firms in almost any part of the country can sign up and immediately deploy VoIP to great effect.

Michael Brook, a technology journalist, has spoken about the future of the internet and, in particular, the arrival of 4G. He said this is expected to create about 125,000 jobs in the UK and trigger about £5.5 billion worth of investment.

"Essentially 4G is a superfast data network which is faster than 3G ... There is a huge amount of benefit to 4G," he stated.

Once 4G takes hold in the UK, companies may well find that running VoIP becomes an even more efficient and cost-effective option. They will find they can enjoy cheap calls - particularly to overseas recipients - while deploying the very latest technology and running it on a superfast connection.

Product specialist at Telappliant Ershad Islam recently spoke on the subject of mobile VoIP, noting it has well and truly taken off among businesses. However, he said 4G will ensure even more can be offered to users, with the range of applications, features and services due to increase over the coming years on the back of it.
