There are several different set-ups that people can enjoy when it comes to investing in and implementing a VoIP-based telecommunications operation.

Ershad Islam, Telappliant's product specialist, has been speaking about some of the options open to businesses around the world that want to enjoy the numerous and significant benefits of the modern and innovative web-based technology.

He said that the company tends to concentrate on hosted systems, meaning many of its customers are firms that are running hosted platforms. The plus point here is that no in-depth knowledge or experience is required in order to get VoIP solutions up and running. With a hosted system, phones are delivered and "it's pretty much integrated with their desktop in that way or with mobile handsets".

That is not to say hosted is the only way to do things when it comes to VoIP. Mr Islam went on to explain to companies that they can choose from various options as to how they want their messages to arrive. For instance, features such as instant messenger and softphones can be incorporated within a set-up.

"So unifying the user experience on to one basic device or one desktop is the way forward and the way it is going at the moment, definitely," the expert concluded.

Businesses wishing to find out which platform they have in place will discover this information is based upon which PBX they have positioned at their end. In other words, the phone system they have will determine the service they can receive and are most suited to.

As Mr Islam alluded to, it seems the rollout of VoIP as a mobile application is a key driver of the market at the moment. Indeed, a recent Visiongain report said it is now a crucial time for this sector, as there is a "vast opportunity" waiting to be taken by vendors.

Mobile could become an integral part of the unified VoIP experience that is ready to invigorate any firm.
