The rise of mobile VoIP has been rapid and spectacular, as more and more companies choose to keep their staff contacted with a web-based calls portal on their handsets.

Of course, it makes sense to do just that, as many workers will already have access to the latest smartphones so the cost of implementing a VoIP set-up could be relatively low. It will also ensure a business can stay in touch with its employees even when they are away from the office through cheap and reliable calls that are run over the web.

A new report by Visiongain has looked into the sector and what it is expecting from it over the years to come - and it has noted that right now is a particularly crucial stage in its development. There is said to be a "vast opportunity" to make a claim for dominance in the mobile VoIP market and providers are fighting to do so.

The Mobile VoIP Market 2012-2017 report suggested there are very few services that businesses can call upon to have such a huge "transformative impact" on their telecommunications infrastructure as VoIP.

"With virtually no comparable rival technologies, the only barrier to success lies with operator strategies," the document stated.

Some newer solutions providers have appeared and will battle existing specialists for supremacy in what is sure to be a thriving, expanding market in the coming months. While there are some start-up costs associated with launching a mobile VoIP set-up, the money saved thanks to lower call charges will make it more than worthwhile.

This is not the first time in recent weeks that the success of mobile VoIP has been established. A report by Research and Markets recently said its use is on the up among businesses, with the increasing reliance on smartphones said to be one factor behind this.
