The development of 4G broadband is moving at such a pace that mobile voice over internet protocol (VoIP) users could benefit from it by the end of 2012.

Subscribers to the Everything Everywhere operator – of which there are about 27 million in the UK – have been told they may be able to access the latest broadband on their handsets within months.

If regulators grant permission for the company – which is the result of a merger between Orange and T-Mobile – to roll out its 4G offering, all those who use the web on phones will be boosted.

Martyn Davies, telecom consultant at Weird Crater, this week said that future growth in the VoIP market will come through its increasing adoption by mobile users.

And that growth could be on the cards much sooner than expected if 4G takes off, making it easier and faster to use services such as VoIP on gadgets.
