Is Wi-Fi the key to enjoying the cheapest mobile VoIP services?

It is well known that using voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions will help a business to reduce its costs, as all calls are charged at the same rate and internet links can be cheaper than traditional phone lines.

But what should you do when you want to take advantage of VoIP on the go, with the help of one of the latest smartphones?

Well, if Imran Choudhary, client manager at consumer knowledge and insights company Kantar Worldpanel Comtech, is to be believed then utilising Wi-Fi rather than data roaming whenever possible is a good idea.

The good news for consumers is that BT recently announced there are now some 3.5 million Wi-Fi hotspots located in the UK and Ireland.

"[People] know that they don't get unlimited [data] anymore and the ones that still use a lot of data will sign up to free Wi-Fi hotspots zones out and about where they can," he explained.
