BT is critical of Ofcom price cut demand

BT has objected to demands from Ofcom that it slash the cost of its wholesale business broadband prices.

Ofcom claims BT should reduce the amount it charges rival internet service providers (ISPs) for the use of its lines by around 4.5 per cent.

The telecoms regulator believes the move will help boost competition in the marketplace and benefit both consumers and business broadband customers.

ISP Be will no doubt be pleased with the Ofcom call, because it recently announced that it would rely on BT infrastructure for the expansion of its fibre optic service.

However, a spokesperson from BT suggested that the regulator had got its sums wrong.

They said: "We disagree with some of the underlying assumptions that they have used to determine these charge controls.

"Our primary concern throughout this process is to ensure that we are able to achieve a fair rate of return."
