Business broadband users in Scotland will be delighted to learn that new plans to increase the speed of their service have been unveiled.

Consumer Focus Scotland has suggested that the rate at which firms can upload and download data on the web could be five times quicker by 2015.

That is if the country's government's proposals for the future of the digital market are realised.

Infrastructure secretary Alex Neil said: "There is no doubt that digital is the way forward and we relish the challenge to put Scotland at the forefront of the digital revolution and make world-class digital infrastructure a reality."

A pot of approximately £185 million has been set aside by politicians north of the border in a bid to implement all of their digital plans.

The Northern Echo this week told how the north-east of England will miss out on millions of pounds of government funding if it does not act quickly to provide a clear outline of its broadband intentions.
