BT has unveiled plans to rollout superfast broadband services to apartment buildings in the UK.

Under the proposals for the extension of its Openreach network, the company is seeking 1,000 structures to take part in a pilot scheme.

Companies based in buildings benefiting from the trials may find they receive better business broadband services.

Residents or landlords in eligible blocks can register their interest in the BT Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) scheme, which will provide end users with downstream rates of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps).

Commenting on the FTTP initiative, Openreach managing director for next generation access Mike Galvin said: "We are factoring customer demand into our future deployment plans but are also keen to partner with landlords and involve them in our plans."

Many firms are likely to receive superfast business broadband speeds in 2012, with BT and Virgin Media both announcing that they are increasing connection rates across the country for both residential and commercial internet users.
