Businesses in the East Sussex city of Brighton and Hove may soon be in a position to justify investment in voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions.

The technology, which runs at its very best on superfast broadband platforms, offers the potential to make efficient, affordable and high-quality calls to associates.

Campaigners are now urging the government to implement a raft of improvements to the internet infrastructure on the south coast, reported the Argus.

Let Brighton Bid is a movement designed to persuade secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt to allow the city the right to apply for the very fastest connections.

He has already confirmed a total of 14 British cities will be kitted out with the best technology, although only locations with 150,00 premises are currently entitled to bid. Brighton and Hove has 125,000.

The Bath Chronicle recently told how the West Country city is another spot looking to upgrade its online infrastructure, with councillors recently approving plans to spend more than £2.7 million in this area.
