The improvement of business broadband is top of the agenda for a council in Cambridgeshire, which believes superfast technology can help local companies.

South Cambridgeshire District Council has confirmed it will support the county-wide authority's decision to boost internet links in the region, reported the Haverhill Echo.

Funds will be diverted to this area in a bid to boost speeds and reliability, with councillor Nick Wright suggesting this will show the county's firms are "open for business".

"Helping businesses prosper is part of our plans we are developing to boost the economy in the area," he stated.

The council intends to support local organisations when it comes to presenting their case for superior business broadband connections to providers, which should in turn attract new firms to the area.

Last week, the Shetland Times told how the Shetland Islands Council is spending £1.1 million on an upgrade to broadband solutions, with the first phase of the work due to go live next month.
