Businesses located close to Hereford Cathedral may soon have the religious building to thank for a greater opportunity to benefit from voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions.

The Ledbury Reporter has revealed that a broadband antennae is to be added to the tower of the cathedral.

It is the first time a building of this type has allowed a receiver to be attached to it and will boost connections in the vicinity.

Villages and towns to the north of the cathedral will be able to access high-speed broadband as a result of the project, which could be used to power the latest VoIP solutions and other telecommunications equipment.

Such is the height of the cathedral, a five-mile line-of-sight radius will also be opened up providing opportunities to expand the new service.

The Plymouth Herald this week told how 6,000 premises in the south-west will benefit from a BT upgrade to broadband infrastructure in the area.
