Owners of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) hardware in Milton Keynes may be in a position to work out exactly how effective their equipment can be when running on a super-fast broadband connection.

That is because BT has offered companies in the town a free trial of its high-speed link, reported the Milton Keynes Citizen.

Any premises that are served by the Bradwell Abbey exchange are able to take part in the scheme, which will provide download speeds of up to 100Mbps and upload rates in the region of 15Mbps.

Firms that are interested in benefiting from the trial have until March 5th to register their interest, with it due to come to an end in June.

Some residents have already been given the chance to test the link, but only now is it the turn of commercial organisations, some of which may run VoIP hardware.

BT recently set out its vision of the future of business broadband to prime minister David Cameron and the cabinet, suggesting 90 per cent of the country could enjoy fibre-optic connections in the next five to six years.
