Users of mobile voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions may find they do not get the most out of their technology if broadband links are not sufficiently upgraded.

According to the BBC, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and the National Farmers Union have each declared the rollout of the latest communications infrastructure is taking too long.

They also suggested the planned upgrades to the service covering the UK will not reach enough of its population.

Andrew Cave of the FSB said: "Businesses in rural areas need broadband now. [The government and Ofcom] need to move faster on this and be more ambitious."

Ofcom has reiterated that the switch from 3G technology to the latest 4G links is taking place as quickly as it is possible to complete, while it has yet to decide exactly how much of the nation will receive it.

However, there was good news for mobile VoIP solutions users last week, when ABI Research predicted the number of broadband hotspot routers providing a signal is due to increase rapidly over the years to come.
