People in one part of the UK are being invited to back a project that would see business broadband links in the region improved significantly.

Those living in Erewash have so far provided a poor rate of response to a council-led survey on the subject, reported the Ilkeston Advertiser.

Derbyshire County Council has been allocated £7.39 million of government funding to bring the best communications connections to its people.

However, in order to access the money, it must first raise the same total itself or the cash will not be released from Westminster.

The local authority has launched a scheme to encourage both residents and companies to complete its Community Broadband Survey, which about 1,800 individuals have so far done.

It noted that responses from Erewash have, in percentage terms, been the second-lowest to date.

One spot where broadband links are improving is Bournemouth, with Fibrecity said to be trialling technology that could create connections 167 times faster than the national average, the Daily Echo reported recently.

Tavistock Superfast Broadband

Not more surveys and hurdles to jump. It makes you wonder if this Government has any intention of reaching it targets on superfast broadband provision. Or will the failings be blamed on a survey form not being filled in?
