Business broadband customers with a connection to the web through Sky have been given a boost by the news the company has upgraded its technology.

Sky is said to have installed the first 100Gb web link in the country, on the back of a highly successful trial period.

It is so far present in the area between London and Birmingham, but could be rolled out across the entire nation at some point.

Thousands of kilometres of fibre-optic cables were installed on routes between the cities.

Sky believes its service will operate approximately ten times faster than most of the current business broadband offerings on the market.

Its hi-tech fibre-optic service is capable of hosting data-rich operations, as it is designed with the firm's entertainment solutions in mind.

Rival BT was recently named by V3 as its Best Business Internet Provider for 2011 – a position Sky may hope to challenge thanks to its new link.
