The rise of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions will continue at its fastest pace within the business – rather than residential – sector.

Larry Hettick, principal analyst at Current Analysis, has offered an overview of the market in a piece for Network World.

The expert suggested that while the adoption of cable-based services in homes could have peaked, there is plenty of potential to expand this technology within commercial organisations.

It is said that both VoIP and mobile devices are areas in which mid-size businesses and enterprises can look to grow.

Mr Hettick noted that the latest CDC data showed the switch to wireless telecommunications is still an option for consumers, with 29.7 per cent of US homes relying only on this solution during the second half of 2010.

VoIP solutions were recently included in a €50 million (£43 million) telecommunications revamp at FCC, which was carried out by experts at BT.
