A scheme to create super-fast business broadband connections in Bournemouth is back on track, following a delay.

Fibrecity hopes to offer companies and residents of the Dorset town internet speeds approximately 167 times the national average, the Daily Echo reported.

It is now trialling its technology with 250 free connections recently becoming available to users.

This is ahead of a planned roll-out to 7,500 recipients next year, which will occur if the tests are successful.

Fibrebrand is overseeing the deployment of the broadband and boss Adam Troman told the newspaper he is confident the technology is already working, but a trial run is necessary.

He noted business leaders can expect speeds to reach as much as 1,000 Mbps – a rate that is only enjoyed by a single block of flats in London in the entire UK.

Last week, the Scottish government confirmed it will hand over £5 million to a project seeking to install high-speed broadband in the south of Scotland.
