The prospect of investing in brand new internet protocol (IP) telephony solutions from snom may have recently become significantly more appealing to businesses around the world.

That is because the Germany-based company has confirmed it is adding an extra tool to the package it offers clients.

According to Reseller News, it will provide a free tool that allows firms to enjoy hosted management and provisioning – a move that it hopes will "broaden its appeal" within the market.

Snom is currently working on its target of increasing its visibility and is retailing its products not only in Europe but around the world and recently set up new links in Australia and New Zealand.

As such, it has released its snom Active feature this month, with the item said to help organisations deploy their IP telephony solutions and other equipment faster and easier than ever before.

Tommy Lee, director of partner alliances at snom, confirmed the tool is offered free of charge to users.

"We will only charge a fee if they want customisation of their portal to include their logos," he told the news source.

"Snom is the only phone vendor that offers a managed solution enabling partners and end customers to deploy without purchasing any servers. Other solutions will require on site equipment."

Mr Lee went on to add that another way in which snom differentiates itself is by offering IP telephony solutions that are compatible with other technology, such as Microsoft Lync 2010.

Jonathan Greenwood, managing director at snom UK, writing for CRN, recently said that another telecommunications option – voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions – provide the industry with an opportunity.

He noted that while many businesses are keen to secure their standard hardware, many neglect the safety of VoIP options, which provides a gap in the market for a provider of such technology.
