BT's group director of strategy policy and portfolio Sean Williams has claimed that the UK will have the best business broadband infrastructure in Europe by around 2015.

Speaking at the Westminster eForum event, Mr Williams was reported by the Daily Telegraph as saying: "We will be top of the major league, certainly if not by 2015 then by very soon after."

He claimed that the coalition government's business broadband targets were proving "challenging", but noted that by working together with other stakeholders - like Virgin Media - BT could help ensure that Britain was on a par with Europe when it came to broadband penetration.

Mr Williams noted that demand for high-speed broadband services was high, with 50 per cent of those offered download speeds of 24Mbps or above opting for them.
"The only thing holding us back is our capacity," he concluded.

Recently, the European Investment Bank claimed that super-fast business broadband will play an increasingly important role in economic growth on the continent in years to come.

Oh come on - that's just a joke. Some of the Asian countries have close to 100 now - never mind 3 or 4 years time.
