Telecoms firm KC is set to unveil the location of its next-generation fibre optic business broadband roll-out.

The company is replacing its existing copper network and by the end of next year hopes to have 15,000 homes and business connected to the new technology - which will offer download speeds ten times higher than those currently available.

Commenting on the business broadband project, city councillor Dave McCobb told the Yorkshire Post he had put pressure on the firm to upgrade the connections to the city's university.

Mr McCobb said: "The city desperately needs this kind of investment in infrastructure."
He added that many parts of Hull still do not have access to high-speed business broadband and claimed that this had to change.

Nick Thompson, KC's director of consumer services, told the news provider that the firm was investing millions in the business broadband network.

Recently, the Berwick Advertiser reported that Northumberland County Council was working on a Local Broadband Plan aimed at securing £7 million in business broadband funding from central government.
