The people of one village in Rutland have come together to fund a switch to superfast business broadband, which can be enjoyed by both local firms and residents.

According to the BBC, Hambleton is now the first location of its size in the UK to boast fibre-optic services and users can experience speeds of up to 100Mbps.

It is believed that people and companies in the village had to find approximately £150,000 to turn the dream of top-quality business broadband into a reality.

"People will be able to vastly improve their work/life balance and we can also build sustainable technology-based businesses," spokesman Richard Foulkes told the news source.

Rutland Telecom carried out the work to install the new connection, after large organisations such as Virgin Media and BT refused to do so in villages on the basis that it is not cost-effective.

Mike Crockart, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, recently demanded the provision of superfast business broadband in Scotland, which he believes is now necessary.
