Mike Crockart, Edinburgh West MP for the Liberal Democrats, has called for an improvement in Scotland's business broadband infrastructure.

He noted that the internet has been applauded for its part in political and social progress around the world and pointed out the opportunity for "economic and social transformation" afforded to developing countries has not yet reached every part of Scotland.

The politician highlighted that there is inequality within the country over who receives a quality service and who does not, with speeds of one or two Mbps available in his constituency compared with 10.1 Mbps in Edinburgh.

"We now need the Scottish government to ... ensure every Scot has access to fast broadband," Mr Crockart stated.

He pointed out that the UK parliament had set aside £70 million specifically for internet services to be improved north of the border.

One Scottish town that recently received an upgrade to its business broadband was Kelso, which was the first place in the nation to experience BT's next generation internet services.
