Business broadband provision looks set to be expanded in Plymouth after the government announced it is to explore improvements in the region.

A delegation from the city, including MPs and representatives from the city council and university told decentralisation, cities and planning minister Greg Clark that the current infrastructure is not up to standard, This Is Plymouth reports.

Mr Clark said he would recommend to secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and Sport Jeremy Hunt that further options be explored to improve the current setup.

Oliver Colville, Plymouth Sutton and Deveonport's Tory MP, told the news provider that the meeting was a positive one that could bear fruit going forward.

"I was delighted Greg Clark suggested that if Plymouth were to consider formulating its own enterprise area package we would have the government's blessing," he added.

Business broadband services in Lincolnshire are set to be improved after a £3 million investment package was announced as part of the South Humber Gateway initiative.
