Business broadband services in the county of Lincolnshire are set to be boosted by a £3 million investment, which will bring internet speeds of up to 25mb to the area.

With the South Humber Gateway – which is part of a national £530 million initiative - project forecasted to have delivered up to £12 million of improved broadband to north Lincolnshire and north-east Lincolnshire by summer 2014, it is hoped some 90 per cent of companies will benefit from super-fast speeds.

Councillor Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, told the Thorne Gazette: "I am excited at the prospect that many rural areas are about to benefit from faster broadband speeds.

“It is long overdue. Rural areas have been the poor relation when it comes to broadband, but this is set to change.

Furthermore, Ms Redfern claims the upgrade will bring thousands of jobs to the region and help drive forward regeneration plans.

Companies in Cornwall will also soon be able to benefit from the arrival of super-fast business broadband - part of a joint initiative by BT, the European Union, Cornwall Council and the Cornwall Development Company - which is said to be running ahead of schedule.
