The future of the VoIP hardware market has been described by one expert, who said the technology is to be a long-term feature of the telecommunications sector.

Dave Dadds, deputy chairman of the Federation of Communication Services, explained that VoIP is currently undergoing a period of evolution.

He said that there is no doubt that the solution has a "major part" to play in the future of the UK, but it is not yet clear exactly how it will look or feel.

"But the one thing you can be certain of is [that] it's absolutely here and it's here to stay and it will take a significant part of the market," Mr Dadds stated.

Observers may be hoping the British VoIP hardware market grows to rival its US counterpart.

A Frost and Sullivan survey recently revealed that the American sector is now worth approximately $2 billion (£1.25 billion), having grown by more than 65 per cent in 2010.
