US VoIP solutions market 'worth $2bn'

The US VoIP solutions market is now said to be worth some $2 billion (£1.25 billion), according to a new study.

Undertaken by Frost and Sullivan, the research revealed the North American VoIP access sector increased by some 65.6 per cent over the course of 2010 to reach 7.2 million users, with this figure expected to expand by a further 35 per cent by 2017.

Elka Popova, programme director at Frost and Sullivan, predicts the medium is developing at such a rate that service providers will be generating revenues in the region of $7.44 billion by 2017.

Recent figures from Infonetics Research predicted a significant uptake of VoIP solutions around the world is will take place over the coming years.

The firm, which tracks releases of products and services in the VoIP sector, suggested the market will grow by some 17 per cent in 2011 and be worth $76.1 billion by the year 2015.
