It is Britain's rural areas that are most in need of a roll-out of super-fast business broadband connections, in the opinion of one expert.

Chris Marling, editor of comparison website BroadbandGenie.co.uk, said it is the countryside that would benefit the most from an upgrade, rather than towns and cities.

He warned that the existing copper network was not built with the intention of transporting large amounts of data.

"Hence the slow speeds as you move further away from the telephone exchange - due to increased packet drops - data being lost in transit, so having to be sent again," Mr Marling added.

These days, it is important to integrate fibre-optic cables that are said to be far more efficient and quicker – something rural spots are currently missing.

The Flintshire Chronicle recently revealed that BT Openreach is in the process of upgrading an exchange that will see the town of Saltney enjoy the fastest business broadband speeds in Wales.
