VoIP solutions market 'set to boom'

A significant uptake of VoIP solutions around the world is predicted to take place over the coming years.

New figures from Infonetics Research show there is set to be a 17 per cent rise growth in the market in 2011, compared with 2010 statistics.

The firm, which tracks releases of products and services in the VoIP sector, said the industry will be worth some $76.1 billion (£49.4 billion) by 2015.

An unnamed analyst for the research body stated: "The residential segment continues to make up the majority of VoIP services revenue, but the real growth is in the business segment, particularly SIP trunking services and hosted VoIP and unified communication services."

It is not only large business that can benefit from VoIP solutions too, as the number of home-based and small office subscribers is set to more than double from 179 million this year to 262 million in 2015.

Trefor Davies, council member for the Internet Telephony Service Providers' Association, recently suggested those who use VoIP can slash their communications bills in half.
