Firms warned of potential for business broadband confusion

Companies looking for a top business broadband deal – perhaps to run their VoIP solutions on – have been advised to be aware of the difference between advertised speeds and reality.

Michael Phillips, product director at Broadbandchoices.co.uk, explained that regulations recently confirmed by the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice are good news.

He suggested they are sure to help the situation, but noted that only ten per cent of customers typically enjoy the advertised speed.

"What it does is water down the current 'up to' speed messages, but it still means that the 'up to' figure will be theoretical for many consumers," Mr Phillips stated.

As such, assessing what speeds can be experienced in reality and how these will aid the use of VoIP solutions and other technology could be a wise move prior to signing up for any deal.

The new regulations mean providers will not be able to advertise business broadband offers as "unlimited" if they have any form of restriction imposed.
