Broadband customers in the US are increasingly seeking smart TVs to utilise their connection speeds.

A new study from Parks Associates indicates that one-fourth of those with this type of internet in the US are planning to purchase such a device.

This marks an increase of nearly double the amount that was recorded in the first half of the year.

Parks Associates' Consumer Decision Process: Summer Update report found that more than ten per cent of households with broadband have plans to invest in a smart TV.

Commenting on the findings, Tricia Parks, chief executive officer at the firm, claimed that advertising campaigns from big-name manufacturers have helped to raise consumer awareness.

"Younger consumers especially want the extra benefits on their new TVs of going to the web for social networking and on-demand video or subscription entertainment," she added.

BT recently announced that faster broadband is heading to homes in Dumfries & Galloway as part of its fibre-optic roll-out scheme.
