A set of best practice guidelines have been released for worldwide broadband connectivity following the ITU Global Symposium for Regulators.

As part of the discussions taking place at the conference, delegates focused on wireless broadband pricing, satellite regulation, national policies, financing, recycling and protecting intellectual property rights in a digital ecosystem.

Participants came to the conclusion that "smart" regulation should be enacted to promote openness and the use of incentive dynamics.

Commenting on the findings, Brahima Sanou, ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau director, claimed that "robust and flexible" regulatory frameworks will be of particular use to developing companies.

"We have seen over the years how regulatory reform plays an essential role," she said.

This comes after a leaked copy of the UK's Advertising Standards Authority forthcoming guidance for broadband providers was seen by the Independent, which claimed there will be a raft of new regulations regarding what speeds can be advertised.
