Digital game delivery specialist Pando Networks has released the results of its study into download speeds across the world.

The company studied 27 million downloads made on 20 million computers in over 200 countries around the world between January and June 2011.

It found that the planet's average download speed is currently 580 kilobytes per second (KBps).

South Korea topped the list of connections, with internet users in the country enjoying a download rate of 2,202 KBps.

The USA clocked in with 616KBps, Germany measures 647KBps, while Romania and Bulgaria claimed second and third place in the table respectively.

Robert Levitan, chief executive officer of Pando Networks described the globabl disparities as "striking".

"Big names such as the US, UK, France, China and Canada were not even close to being the fastest," he said.

A recent uSwitch.com report found that Leamington Spa enjoys the fastest broadband speeds in the UK.
