VoIP hardware users who enjoy utilising the technology on their ultrabooks have been offered enhanced anti-theft protection.

McAfee has announced a partnership with Intel, which will see the pair develop a range of software solutions to help consumers ensure their next-generation gadgets are kept safe.

Ultrabooks combine the ergonomic features of today's tablets with the performance of top of the line laptops.

Commenting on the initiative, Steve Petracca, senior vice-president of consumer marketing for McAfee, told of the company's "strong legacy" of distributing solutions through partner channels.

"By making easy-to-use anti-theft software for Ultrabook systems available, our partners are able to leverage proven security deployment models to protect consumers," he said.

Similar comments were issued by George Thangadurai, general manager for the PC client services division at Intel, who claimed the software would help to put consumers' minds at ease.

This comes after data released by the International Data Corporation revealed that tablet devices have proven wildly popular with consumers around the world.
