Consumers looking for a tablet device to utilise their VoIP hardware on have been offered tips on choosing a product.

James Holland, editor for gadget review site electricpig.co.uk, recently set out some of the latest developments in the field and provided advice on what to look for when making a purchase.

He explained that price should not necessarily be the deciding factor and gave the example of the "ill-fated" HP Touchpad.

"It's a fantastic device, and now it's been discontinued, the prices are falling and it is flying off the shelves," Mr Holland claimed.

He went on to add that the device is a good example of a product that boasts a symbiosis between hardware and software.

However, the industry expert suggested that very few Android devices in this field are able to match the experience.

Mr Holland's comments follow a report from the International Data Corporation, which indicated that media tablet shipments grew by 88.9 per cent last quarter.
