People utilising their VoIP hardware in rural areas will be among those who could miss out on BT's investment in fibre-optic broadband.

This is according to the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), who recently claimed that those in remote parts of the country might still be left with insufficient infrastructure.

Commenting on the situation, CLA president William Worsley explained that while his organisation welcomes BT's plans to roll out super-fast fibre-optic broadband to most of the UK by 2015, there is still more that can be done.

"BT should focus on those rural areas with barely adequate broadband or none at all. The final third of the country still lacks any broadband service and will be even further behind by 2015," he said.

Mr Worsley went on to call upon the government to encourage public and private partnerships, which will bring faster connection speeds to rural areas.

This comes after BT's Openreach division reported on the 114 new locations across Britain that are set to receive broadband upgrades before 2012.
