BT's Openreach division has provided a progress report on the state of its roll-out of fibre-optic broadband in the UK.

VoIP solutions users and those accessing the internet in 114 new locations are set to enjoy the benefits of super-fast speeds, with upgrades due to be completed by autumn 2012.

Commenting on the status of the project, Mike Galvin, Openreach managing director for Next Generation Access, expressed his delight at the rate the scheme is progressing.

"Our roll-out is one of the fastest in the world and we are on track to pass ten million homes and businesses next year," he stated.

Mr Galvin went on to claim that fibre-optic broadband would "transform" the experience of internet users around the country and expected residents to welcome the upgrades.

Earlier in the month, an ISPreview.co.uk survey found that many respondents in Britain were concerned about the state of their upload speeds.
