Businesses that are often involved in VoIP traffic might find that switching their systems to the cloud pays off handsomely.

Nicola Mortimer, head of ICT and business development at O2, has told of some of the greatest benefits of the technology.

She noted that it can be used to drive down costs in some areas of business, meaning it provides a healthy return on investment.

"It allows [companies] to only pay for services as they use them; it's a utility-based type of computing. That would be a very key aspect for reducing costs within a business," Ms Mortimer stated.

She went on to note that VoIP solutions users could also take advantage of the increased mobility cloud computing offers, as it means products can be used in a variety of locations rather than just in the office.

A recent study by iReach found that some firms could misunderstand what cloud services can do for them, with 54 per cent of Irish businesses said to be confused by the technology.
