VoIP phones users may choose to experiment with the cloud

Firms that choose to use VoIP solutions in their day-to-day operations may be among those to have increasingly been experimenting with cloud-based technology.

Seth Robinson, one of the authors of the CompTIA second annual Trends in Cloud Computing report, said 32 per cent of respondents to the study revealed they are already using such solutions.

Meanwhile, another 36 per cent admitted to planning to try out cloud computing at some point over the next year.

"That data - together with the data on public, private or hybrid clouds - really leads us to believe end users have been experimenting with cloud and there's been an early adoption phase," Mr Robinson stated.

The greatest benefits could be experienced by those that manage to combine VoIP solutions with a move to the cloud.

Simon May, client and cloud evangelist at Microsoft, recently assured staff that they are still essential, even after the deployment of cloud technology.
