The £7 million fund allocated to improving broadband infrastructure in Northumberland will not go far enough, the deputy leader of Northumberland County Council has said.

Speaking to the Berwick Advertiser, councillor Roger Styring said the money - which has been made available through the government's Broadband UK Delivery project - will not provide the far-reaching benefits hoped for.

"Overall, we are disappointed with the announcement," he stated.

Councillor Styring said that the government scheme employs a complex formula to determine exactly how much should be given to local authorities up and down the country.

"The indicative figures announced for Northumberland currently fall well short of what we think the people of the county deserve," he told the news provider.

Warwickshire councillor Alan Cockburn, portfolio holder for sustainable communities and Local Enterprise Partnership Board member, said recently that he is delighted with the £4 million investment in the county's broadband infrastructure.
