Superfast broadband is planned for 120,000 rural homes and offices in Warwickshire following government funding, which a local counsellor thinks will revolutionise the area.

The £4 million investment, part of a £363 million nationwide drive, will provide an improved service for those situated outside of existing superfast broadband networks and help more than a quarter of homes in the region.

Warwickshire councillor Alan Cockburn, portfolio holder for sustainable communities and Local Enterprise Partnership Board member, thinks the money provided is a huge step in the right direction.

He said: "I'm as pleased as punch. This will enable us to equip our homes and offices with a strong digital structure to ensure we have a system fit for the 21st century."

The local council had launched an online appeal to Warwickshire residents and businesses urging feedback on the condition of broadband speeds, in order to help its bid for funding.
